About Clues & Culprits

Clues & Culprits is a daily deduction puzzle built on one promise: every answer can be proven, and you will never be asked to guess.

Why we made it

We love daily puzzles — the ritual, the shared result, the small satisfaction of a finished grid. We also love the suspect-wall format that Clues by Sam made popular. What we wanted was more of it: a choice of difficulty every day, notes good enough to think with, hints that teach rather than tell, and an archive you can always go back to.

How the cases are made

Each case is generated and then checked by computer. A hidden answer is chosen first; then statements are added one at a time, each true for that answer, in an order where a careful solver can always prove at least one more suspect. A case is only published if the answer is unique, every step is provable, and its difficulty — measured by how many statements a step needs at once — matches its level. The settings, the professions and the characters’ lines are written by hand.
